David Soper, a Fairbury native, served in the Vietnam War (or the Vietnam "Conflict" as he was taught to call it) at the young age of 19. Although he may not talk about it often, he also received a bronze star with an additional "V" for "valor", for his showing of great courage in the face of danger in battle. David manned a tank in this war and was skilled enough to return home, to his surprise, with both legs. Many men that David was with during his stay though, were not so lucky.
In this episode David, or Hawk, as he is more commonly known, talks with me about his incredible stories from a year in combat and what he wants all the listeners to remember when they encounter a veteran.
