The Nationals are calling on the Prime Minister to explain and apologise for a joke he made at a gala celebrating rural women's achievements.

Anthony Albanese has refused to apologise for a joke he made about banning the live sheep trade.

He has clarified the joke to the Western Australia Premier, Roger Cook.
