Black British History and Diversifying the Labour Party w/ Jermain Jackman & Nicki Adeleke
Manage episode 276536820 series 2782873
This year's events have brought many conversations regarding Black issues to the forefront. With the BLM protests sparking discussions about police brutality and racial profiling; Coronavirus exposing the deep, existing inequalities against Black people in the UK; and the first Black History Month debate in Parliament in 5 years, addressing the growing calls to decolonise the school curriculum and make UK education more representative of BAME history.
In this week's episode, we are joined by political activist and singer-songwriter Jermain Jackman, who is running to become the first black male member of The Labour Party's NEC, as well as newly-elected YF Exec member, Nicki Adeleke.
We talked about Black British History, the importance of teaching Britain's colonial past, the underlying issues within the Labour Party and what needs to be done to make it a more representative and inclusive place for Black members, and much more!
