Episode 3: The Curse of Bhangarh Fort

Deep in the heart of Rajasthan, India, lies the forsaken ruins of Bhangarh Fort, a place steeped in legend and darkness. The locals speak in hushed tones about its curse, warning that anyone who enters after sunset will never return.

There are two legends: One states that a Sage used the area as a meditation spot and when the king came to build a fort on top of the area, the sage allowed on the condition that no building shall be taller than his own house, so shadows of the fort do not cover it otherwise the fort would be destroyed. Ignoring this, the king’s grandson built the fort taller than planned, covering the Sage’s house in shadow, and as warned, the fort was destroyed shortly after.

The second legend states that a Wizard fell in love with Princess Ratnavati, who was said to be incredibly beautiful and had many suitors. In order to win her over, the wizard saw the princess shopping for perfume and replaced the perfume with a love potion in hopes that she would use it. The princess saw through the wizard’s tricks and threw the potion against a boulder, which caused the boulder to roll on top of the wizard, killing him. Before his death, the wizard whispered a curse on the fort that it would be destroyed, and anyone would never be able to live there again. Just a few days later, Mughal forces swarmed the fort, destroying the structures, and killing everyone inside including the princess. It is said that today, the princess roams the streets of the fort, cursing anyone who steps foot inside after sundown.

This is a fictional story based on real information and real locations. The characters of the story are made up, but the background provided on Bhangarh Fort is based on real stories. So please, turn off the lights, grab a snack, and enjoy the story I’m about to tell.
