Hi everyone my name is Mike and I'm
going to hopefully show you how to fix
your garage door opener. This is the back
of a lift master it has a circuit boards
and power board attached to it and the
problem with this one was after a while
the remote wouldn't work unless you got
really close and then even then it
wouldn't work, I tried putting on a new
wire a longer antenna that seemed to
work for a month or two and then it
stopped working again.
I noticed once if I went up to it and
just banged the side of the whole unit
when this was attached to it bang the
side then the remote would work again so
that told me there was probably a broken
connection somewhere or a weak
connection to get incidentally to get
this part off of your garage door opener
you unplug it first and then there's a
screw here you take out here and then
one right down in there and you're going
to have to disconnect these wires too
and I color-coded mine I put you know a
little bit of a red mark and a purple
mark on the wires themselves I could
easily know which ones slipped like in
because they were just all white anyway
once you get this off you can flip it
around, and here's the power board and
this is the secondary board this is
going to be a screw here here and here
you undo those and you can rock this one
out and then there's the board that's
bad you see the antennas touched it
right there here's a little learn button
that you push anyway so on this board I
was inspecting it for a while I tested
all the capacitors they were all good
and on the solder side I noticed which
pins are they right here these pins
since I banged it and then all of a
sudden it did work I wanted to look at
all the connections and visually looking
at all these they looked fine I didn't
see anything wrong with them but I tried
a magnifying glass still can see it but
a macro lens on my iPhone did work so
I'm going to jump to this camera
show you what it looks like when the
connections here are broken okay here's
the pins and you can see they come
through onto the solder side of the
board and right here you see this line
right about there that's a broken
connection you see right here that's a
broken connection too and they're almost
unnoticeable but this should be smooth
all the way up all of these have a
little hairline crack in them and if I
just get the soldering iron hot and just
touch all these up so reflows the solder
this whole board should be fixed and I
shouldn't have any problems anymore so I
just have a hot iron here
just retouching them all and making sure
didn't bridge any and that should be
good I'm going to pop this back in put
it all together and we should see if
this works okay here we are on the back
you can see this ribbon cable this
ribbon cable go right into there on this
board and then the board just screws
right on.
