We remember her as producing "the most brilliant PhD thesis ever written in Astronomy and the most eminent woman astronomer of all time.” During a time when science was largely a men’s club, she had figured out the chemical makeup of the stars, and her work is also credited with paving the way for us to develop our understanding of stellar evolution.
