This is a brand new series I will be taking on where each Friday I share 15 minutes worth of thoughts and clips about a concept, a theory, something I read, watched, heard that relates to people doing more cool shit. Hopefully this becomes a series where you find inspiration or become curious about a new talk a new book or something that gets you thinking and more importantly doing!
This episode is all about Trusting Your Gut. The question was sparked from a page in the book Soul Pancake. What's one time you wish you had trusted your gut? Why didn't you?
I've often thought about this question, unknowingly, "jeeze I wish I would have said that" "damn, I wish I would have signed up for that course" these are the kinds of things that we all say to ourselves. But instead of just trusting our gut, when we knew we were right, we talk ourselves out of things. Why do we do that and how can we stop doing that?
In this episode I played 2 clips, one from Simon Sinek and one from David Vobora both of which you can check out, along with some other great videos and inspiration, in the links below:
1. Simon Sinek - Should You Trust Your Gut
2. Trust Your Gut | David Vobora | TEDxSMU
3. Hugh MacLeod - Ignore Everybody Book
4. Yes You Should Trust Your Gut (Here's How)
5. Gut Feelings Are Real, but Should You Really ‘Trust Your Gut’?
Good shit can happen when you just let go and you trust your gut. Bad things can happen as well, but far and few between. You're smarter than you think. You almost always know.
One thing that I have always asked when people come to work with me is how much they are worth? This question always gets the same response, a look off into the distance or down at their feet. But if I sit there long enough in the silence, I smile, they smile, they say "oh I don't know" but that is crap you do know. We all know. We all have gut instincts. I hold firm and I ask again "how much money do you want, and how much time do you want?" They know then that I'm not joking. It's the first time they have ever been asked this but immediately they know they have an answer, doesn't mean we can't haggle back and forth about it but they have an answer. I love when people have an answer.
