If you don't want to wait to see Part 2, join now as a premium member to hear the entire discussion! Three amazing ER RN's give some great advice to our EMS crews as well as new APP's. This was a really fun discussion with Meredith Thomson (ER RN, with lots of years' experience on the ambulance as well), Amy Christopher Pryor (ER Charge RN) and Jeremy Hulsker (ER Charge RN
We talked a lot about our EMS crews as seen through the eyes of ER nursing and I think there is a lot of valuable information in seeing patients and situations from their perspective.

They also give some great advice to new APP's that are climbing that steep learning curve that is emergency medicine.

Communication is key. Accepting feedback is key. We are all here to help the patient and open discussions with your nurses about the plan and goals on a given patient interaction go a long way to speed up the processes as well as decrease the chances of patient harm.

Our local EMS agencies do a great job in the field with far less resources than we have in the ED. Nursing has noticed a significant improvement in the communication from EMS over the last few years. But it can certainly be a challenge to keep up with all the trauma, stroke and sepsis criteria of multiple hospital systems in a region.

Our prehospital providers are always on always on my mind because it is where I practiced medicine for so long as a paramedic. So I hope I don't come across overly critical in my efforts to educate you guys about the things I wish I knew when I was practicing as a paramedic.
