Join us this week on PKCC as we sit down with James Pankewicz. Sensei Pankiewicz is a 5th Dan in Matsubayashiryu karatedo (under Arakaki Toshimitsu Hanshi). He has practiced martial arts for 30+ years including Wadoryu karate, Shorinryu karate, Jujitsu, and Okinawan kobudo. Sensei Pankewicz first came to Japan in 1996 to study Japanese language, culture and martial arts. In addition to running Asato Dojo, he opened "The DOJO Bar" in 2011 in Naha, Okinawa as a place for like-minded locals and visiting karateka to meet and share knowledge. This year (2024) will be the 10th anniversary of the “100 Kata for Karate Day Challenge” which was founded by James Pankewicz, who inaugurated this event to promote the spread of traditional karate practice and connect karateka around the world to Okinawa.
