Jan Broberg is an actress, author, and advocate best known for her harrowing true story of abduction, which was chronicled in the Netflix documentary Abducted in Plain Sight and later dramatized in the Peacock series A Friend of the Family. Born in Pocatello, Idaho, Broberg was kidnapped twice as a child in the 1970s by a close family friend, Robert Berchtold, a case that stunned the public due to the extreme manipulation and psychological grooming involved.

Despite her traumatic past, Broberg pursued a successful career in the entertainment industry, appearing in television series such as Everwood, Criminal Minds, and Touched by an Angel. She has also been active in theater, performing in numerous stage productions.

In recent years, Broberg has become a dedicated advocate for child abuse awareness and prevention. She uses her platform to educate others about the dangers of grooming, manipulation, and coercion, speaking openly about her experiences to help others recognize and prevent similar situations. Through her work as a speaker, writer, and advocate, she continues to raise awareness about child exploitation and resilience, turning her personal tragedy into a mission for change.
