Can psychic mediums really choose to ignore the voices of the dead?

This is an immensely personal topic for me. For years I struggled with terrible physical consequences of ignoring my purpose and subsequently Spirits voice. I'm super stubborn so it took a while for them to really hammer it in.
Thankfully it has been years since I have had any adverse side effects of ignoring them. Mainly because I don't anymore. I have learned to take time for myself and stay in alignment with my souls' purpose to communicate with Spirit and help others that struggle to accept their gifts and grow them for personal guidance or for them to also be able to support others.
I would hate to have anyone else suffer the way that I did just because they didn't have the support that they needed or because it was too hard to connect and communicate.
