[Heartbreak-Talk] Why People Get Stuck In Heartbreak
Manage episode 407115311 series 3557941
Welcome to this new series of episodes where we’ll focus on topics specific to breakups and heartbreak recovery.
Heartbreak is a universal human experience. But why do some people get stuck in heartbreak, while others are able to move on? In this podcast episodes, we explore the three main reasons why people get stuck in heartbreak:
- Unmanaged negative thoughts and beliefs: When we go through a breakup, it's common to have negative thoughts about ourselves, the other person, and the situation. These negative thoughts can trigger negative emotions, such as sadness, guilt, anger, and loneliness. These negative emotions can then lead to more negative thoughts, creating a vicious cycle.
- Negative actions taken from a place of pain and grief: When we're feeling hurt and heartbroken, it's easy to make decisions that we later regret. For example, we may stalk our ex on social media, contact them repeatedly even though they've asked us to leave them alone, turn to alcohol or drugs to numb our pain, engage in self-destructive behaviors, or withdraw from our friends and family and isolate ourselves. Negative actions will only make heartbreak worse in the long run.
- Unhealthy relationship patterns:Many people repeat the same unhealthy relationship patterns over and over again. This can be because they're unaware of their patterns, or because they're afraid to change. If we want to break free from heartbreak, we need to be willing to acknowledge our unhealthy relationship patterns and learn from them.
In this podcast episode, we'll discuss each of these reasons in more detail and offer practical advice on how to overcome them. We'll also share stories from people who have been through heartbreak and come out the other side stronger.
