11 The Myth of Me
Manage episode 349164996 series 3417452
Fibromyalgia, anxiety, and a panic disorder tried to stop Mary in her thrity-two-year-old tracks, but they didn't, her suffering only fueled her desire to find a cure.
In this episode, Mary will read the last story of part one of the book, titled “The Myth of Me," which is about when it came time to pick a thesis topic in graduate school, she decided to do research on herself to find a path, any path, to healing.
She desperately wanted to understand the origins of her physical and emotional pain by seeking the counsel of a wide variety of practitioners—from western to eastern medicine, shamanic to celestial, and a few otherworldly interventionalists—over thirty in all.
Her goal was to see how her presentation of symptoms would be perceived, diagnosed, and treated across a spectrum of multi-cultural, physical, social, psychological, holistic, and spiritual healing traditions. She asked each one of them the same question, "What is wrong with me?"
You’ll learn about the treatments she endured, new perspectives gleaned, and how her life was changed forever.
