Manage episode 318526920 series 2904793
In our Season 3 premiere, we’re talking about one of the most significant impacts of COVID-19: our mental health. We've all felt it in one way or another -- so psychiatrist Dr. Shirin Ali joins us to tell us just how mental health has been impacted by the pandemic, who’s been most affected, and what you can do to take care of yourself.
Shirin Ali, MD is a Clinical Assistant Professor in psychiatry at Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons. She completed her residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and McLean Hospital and served as a chief resident in her final year there. After working as an inpatient attending for several years, she completed psychoanalytic training at Columbia. Currently, she teaches and supervises psychiatry residents and psychoanalysts in training and is in full-time private practice in New York City. In her practice, she works with patients with mood and anxiety disorders, psychosis, problems of culture and identity and difficulties relating to emerging adulthood. She has written about approaches to mental health treatment in minoritized groups and recently presented work on the impact of the pandemic on patients who are immigrants.
