162: How to Build Leadership through Ownership, Looking at our Narratives to Lead and Live Better w/ L.S. (Luke) Goozdich
Manage episode 455838610 series 3539627
Leadership starts with Ownership- leading yourself. There are two dynamics here to underline. The first is the recognition that you need to take charge, embrace growth, and model excellence for yourself if you are to take charge, embrace growth and support excellence in others. Also, even for people who do not think of themselves as leaders due to role or rank- you absolutely are. Anyone you touch in your work or efforts outside of work, anyone who observes you up close or at a distance, is someone you are affecting. So step up, and LEAD.
This episode is with returning guest, Luke Goozdich, AKA LS Goozdich. Luke is an intellectual and philosophical pundit. I’ve been looking forward to having him back on since the first time (Ep. 70, How to be the Hero of your Own Story). That discussion and this one riffs on themes of not just leader/ownership but the what/how/why we do things, inspiring others through legacy and grappling continually with mortality so we can do and be our best with the time we have.
Also, we explore the power of other narratives- looking at stories, aka fiction. Key examples come from Luke’s novel series involving law enforcement officers in a 3-part saga. We discuss how looking at different characters can help us view, process and understand these challenges (thoughts, fears, responses, and stressors) in our own first responder or police careers.
We connect these themes to the power of narrative- what we tell ourselves. We go deep here, going into whether we are saying, telling and LIVING the right things or the right way for ourselves, navigating emotional responses and the big picture of the direction of our lives.
